10 Reasons Why Cats Are Better Pets Than Dogs

We all love our furry friends, but the fact remains that some are simply more managable than others. While dogs are great pets in their own right, cats are far easier to take care of and live with. The following is a list of ten reasons why cats are a better choice than dogs, especially if you are considering getting a pet for the first time

2: Independance

One of the best things about cats is that they don't require 24/hour supervision. Whereas a dog needs constant attention for there emotional well-being (a.k.a: keep them from pooing in your favorite shoes) cats for the most part take care of themselves, and make it plain that you should count yourself luck to be graced by their presence.

1: Catch Mice

Dogs will chase about anything, but mostly for fun and games. Cats are invaluable for getting rid of mice and other houshold vermin; even their simple presence can keep them away.

A cat wouldn't take this kind of attitude.

4: Safer for kids

If you have young children, dogs, especially big ones, can be a hazard. True, cats have claws and teeth, but the differance in size is a significant adavantage. Also, cats don't have the same level of protective instinct towards the family. While this may sound like a drawback at first, it really means that there's a much smaller chance of an accident resulting from good intentions.

3: Less Destructive

Dogs love to nibble. As a result, they can reak havoc on your possessions. Cats on the other hand, resrtict most of their activities to scratching, and usually limit it to a specific spot. If it becomes a problem, they can be declawed, whereas dogs would need to have all their teeth removed to achieve the same effect

5: Quieter

Cats don't bark. It's just that simple

6: Clean up After Themselves

Any pet is going to require a certain amount of maintainance, but cats are a lot less messy than dogs. They give themselves baths and are fairly easy to house train. In addition, they give off a lot less 'interesting' smells than their canine counerparts.

Unless you can train your dog to do this, you're probably better off with a cat.

7: They Do Cute Things With Yarn

Years of intesive emotional therapy, or a half-hour of watching a kitten chase a ball of yarn: you decide

8: Easier to Move

If you ever find yourself needing to transplat yourself, it's a lot easier to move a cat than a dog, especially big dogs. Cats take confinement much better than dogs and use up less space. (just remember to use a cat-carrier)

Cats usually handle small spaces better

9: They Like to Stay Home

Dogs need to be walked on a regular basis or they go stir crazy. Cats tend to regard their home as their own little kingdom and prefer to rule peacfuly from on top of the fridge.

10: No Slobbering

You lost me at this "Cats on the other hand, resrtict most of their activities to scratching, and usually limit it to a specific spot. If it becomes a problem, they can be declawed...". BOO HISS. You really should take that out, unless you are fine with mutilating cats' feet...

Cats are superior to dogs, humans, and gravity. Seriously great hub. Cute cats! Voting up, and all that jazz.
